Après 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3, le Noirs peuvent continuer avec 5.... e6, variante Scheveningen (B80) ou 5.... a6, variante Najdorf (B90).
Garry Kasparov aime à jouer 5...a6 avant 6...e6. Kasparov considère que 5...e6 permet aux Blancs de jouer 6.g4, attaque Keres (B81), qui est l'une des attaques les plus dangereuses contre la variante Scheveningen. Avec 5...a6, les Noirs attend de voir le prochain coup des Blancs avant de s'engager sur la variation Scheveningen. Si les Blancs veulent jouer l'attaque Keres, ils peuvent préparer la poussée g4 en jouant 6.h3 (Fisher) ou 6.Rg1 après 5...a6.
L'approche de la variante Scheveningen par Kasparov en passant par la variante Najdorf (avec d6, a6 and e6) est une transposition de la variante KAN (B43) avec la poussée d6.
Mais revenons à la variante Najdorf, les Blancs peuvent continuer par 6.Bg5 (B94) 6.... e6 (B95) 7.f4 (B96) avec la menace d'attaquer le cavalier cloué avec 8.e5. Les Noirs peuvent lever simplement le clouage avec 7...Be7 (B98 & B99) ou ignorer le clouage avec 7...Qb6, la variante du pion empoisonné (B97) popularisé par Fischer ou 7...b5, la variante Polugaevsky qui continue avec 8.e5 dxe5 9.fxe5 Qc7! 10.exf6 Qe5+ échangeant le fou contre le cavalier.
Les blancs peuvent continuer avec 6.Be3, l'attaque anglaise introduite dans les années 1980 par les GM anglais Murray Chandler, John Nunn et Nigel Short, suivi de 6...e6 7.g4, l'attaque hongroise ou l'attaque Perenyi.

After 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3, Black can continue with 5.... e6, Scheveningen Variation (B80) or 5.... a6, Najdorf Variation (B90).
Garry Kasparov plays 5...a6 before 6...e6. Kasparov considers that the immediate 5...e6 allows Keres Attack (B81) by 6.g4 , which is White's most dangerous line against the Scheveningen. By playing 5...a6 first, Black temporarily prevents White's g4 thrust and waits to see what White plays instead. If White is determined to play the g4 thrust, he may prepare it by responding to 5...a6 with 6.h3 (as Fischer sometimes played) or 6.Rg1. The Scheveningen and/or Najdorf variation by Kasparov (with d6, a6 and e6) is a transposition of KAN variation (B43) with e6.
But come back to Najdorf, White can continue with 6.Bg5 (B94) 6.... e6 (B95) 7.f4 (B96) with the threat to attack the pinned knight with 8.e5. Black can simply break the pin with 7...Be7 (B98 & B99). Black's alternatives are 7...Qb6, the Poisoned Pawn Variation (B97) popularized by Fischer or 7...b5, the Polugaevsky Variation, which has the tactical point 8.e5 dxe5 9.fxe5 Qc7! 10.exf6 Qe5+ winning the bishop for the knight.
White can also continue with is 6.Be3, called English Attack, because it was popularized by English grandmasters Murray Chandler, John Nunn and Nigel Short in the 1980s. Black can respond with 6...e6 allowing 7.g4, known as the Hungarian Attack or Perenyi Attack.
Other possibilities for White include 6.Be2, Opovcensky Variation (B92), 6.f4, 6.Bc4 (the Fischer Attack), 6.g3, and 6.h3, (the Adams Attack, named after Weaver Adams), which was used several times by Bobby Fischer.
So KAN players must be familiar with following openings due to transposition possibilities :

After 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3, Black can continue with 5.... e6, Scheveningen Variation (B80) or 5.... a6, Najdorf Variation (B90).
Garry Kasparov plays 5...a6 before 6...e6. Kasparov considers that the immediate 5...e6 allows Keres Attack (B81) by 6.g4 , which is White's most dangerous line against the Scheveningen. By playing 5...a6 first, Black temporarily prevents White's g4 thrust and waits to see what White plays instead. If White is determined to play the g4 thrust, he may prepare it by responding to 5...a6 with 6.h3 (as Fischer sometimes played) or 6.Rg1. The Scheveningen and/or Najdorf variation by Kasparov (with d6, a6 and e6) is a transposition of KAN variation (B43) with e6.
But come back to Najdorf, White can continue with 6.Bg5 (B94) 6.... e6 (B95) 7.f4 (B96) with the threat to attack the pinned knight with 8.e5. Black can simply break the pin with 7...Be7 (B98 & B99). Black's alternatives are 7...Qb6, the Poisoned Pawn Variation (B97) popularized by Fischer or 7...b5, the Polugaevsky Variation, which has the tactical point 8.e5 dxe5 9.fxe5 Qc7! 10.exf6 Qe5+ winning the bishop for the knight.
White can also continue with is 6.Be3, called English Attack, because it was popularized by English grandmasters Murray Chandler, John Nunn and Nigel Short in the 1980s. Black can respond with 6...e6 allowing 7.g4, known as the Hungarian Attack or Perenyi Attack.
Other possibilities for White include 6.Be2, Opovcensky Variation (B92), 6.f4, 6.Bc4 (the Fischer Attack), 6.g3, and 6.h3, (the Adams Attack, named after Weaver Adams), which was used several times by Bobby Fischer.
So KAN players must be familiar with following openings due to transposition possibilities :
